During the SJU organized webinar on “Automatic Speech Recognition for ATC applications” on 2021-05-11 Prof. Helmke presented the results of a speech recognition experiment with a smartphone. This demonstrated available performance and current limitations of Commercial-of-the-Shelf (COTS) systems. Then he concentrated on the adaptation of speech recognition models by machine learning. In the last part he presented the challenges of the new Horizon 2020 funded research project HAAWAII showing that speech recognition does not include speech understanding.
